Originally Dhanpat Rai, he adopted the pen name 'Nawab Rai,' transitioning to 'Premchand' after facing censorship of his work "Soz-e-Watan" by the British Raj. Referred to as the "Emperor of Novels" by Hindi writers, Munshi Premchand, also known as 'Munshi Premchand' – 'Munshi' being an honorary title, is recognized for his extensive literary repertoire comprising novels, short stories, essays, and translations of foreign literary works into Hindi.
